"Good Girl Gone Bad" is the 3rd album from "
Rihanna" in just over two years, & her sound has thankfully progressed with her age. Although there are still moments of immature 'pop' music on this record, the majority has a more grown up, sexy feel to it, which is only a good thing.
Highlights of the album include; "Umbrella", the current smash hit for Riri, with it's huge rhythm & beat, this was always a certain number #1. Her second single "Shut Up & Drive" will at least give her a top #5 hit, it's more 'rocky' feel makes this an addictive track to listen to.
"Breakin' Dishes" is an obvious single & shows Rihanna with a bit of Attitude. "Don't Stop The Music" is a real gem of this album, with it's 'dance; beat & rhythmically timed lyrics, this sounds more like a UK dance track than something from an R&B artist, this shows Rihanna diversity as an artist, plus she really pulls this track off well.
This album, although promising, is not flawless, with some slow, almost boring tracks; the title track "Good Girl Gone Bad" being one of them, & the addition of "
Ne-Yo's" vocals on "Hate That I Love You" being almost cringe worthy, in parts sounding like a musical number from "
Grease". Even "
Timbaland's" effort for this album just seems to be a recycled beat; "Rehab", while well sung with solid production, just sounds like "
Justin Timberlake's" "What Goes Around".
Overall, apart from some disappointing moments, this is a solid, consistent offering with some great tracks. Some tracks need a few listens before you get to like them, but I can promise you will. This will remain a firm favourite with me throughout the summer, & is a promising sign of what is to come from Rihanna, this will not be the last you hear from this girl, not by a long shot.
"Good Girl Gone Bad" is scheduled for release June 4th (UK), go a grab a copy, it won't disappoint.
